The trails at Lake Fairfax Park amount to about a dozen miles of singletrack in the western suburbs of Washington, D.C. Located in Reston, Va., the park is home to a network of several trails that encircle Lake Fairfax and takes up almost 500 acres of land in busy Fairfax County.

Schaeffer Farm is a 15-mile mountain biking trail system cutting through woods and corn and soybean fields.

The park has about 11 miles of singletrack trails that climb somewhere around 800 feet, and the jagged elevation profile looks worse than it actually is. Still, the trails — which consist of a perimeter loop and a shorter one that cuts into the southern end of the park — are twisty and hilly.
