Intro
Known as "The People's Park," Bear Mountain Resort is the best skiing and snowboarding you can find within four hours of Santa Barbara. There are four mountains and 1,700 vertical feet of terrain ranging from beginner to expert. There is an in-ground super pipe and in-ground half pipe. The resort also features a Skill Builder Park for intro level rails, boxes and rollers. Ski school for skiers and boarders of all ages is available. Rentals are available onsite as well as shopping in case you lost one of your gloves.
What Makes It Great
Restaurants are onsite, and Apres ski happy hour specials are available too. Downtown is a short distance away as well as lodging, from condos to motels. There is a free shuttle between Bear Mountain and its sister resort Snow Summit. Lift tickets are valid at both locations. Snow tubing and bobsledding are right down the road at Big Bear Snow Play and at Magic Mountain. In the summer, Bear Mountain is a popular mountain bike destination with lift service.
There are a good mix of runs on the mountain but Bear Mountain is known for its dedication to terrain parks. It's where Shaun White dialed in his snowboarding chops -- and expect the terrain aspects to only get better as White recently became a partial owner of Bear Mountain!
Who is Going to Love It
Families, terrain park riders, and anyone who wants to experience a real mountain within reach of the sunny beaches of Santa Barbara will have a blast at Bear. It's a great place to grow your snow skills and many California kids learn their turns at Bear.
