Fiesta Island is a large area of land centrally located in Mission Bay, and it's great for recreational activities of a wide variety. The island itself is usually very empty and free of distraction, which makes it a good place to find some peace and quiet along the water's edge.
What Makes It Great
The 5-mile path around the island is free of traffic and is perfect for a solo running workout or for a leisurely bike ride with the family. There are only a few rolling hills so it should be manageable for even the youngest riders and runners. The beautiful views of the bay will make you want to stick around longer and play in the water, so take a dip when you're done with your workout.
Go one step further, and bring a paddleboard along. Fiesta Island is a SUPing favorite for San Diego residents, and it's one of the only places in California where you can take your dog on the beach! Access to the water is generally pretty easy, although there aren't any places to rent boards, so you'll have to bring your own. Regardless, Fiesta Island is certainly a destination that you won't want to miss- for it's running, biking, and paddleboarding opportunities.
Who is Going to Love It
Part of what makes Fiesta Island so great is the variety of activities here. The mostly flat, paved trail makes this a great path for a family outing, a smooth run, or a quick bike ride. Add in the water activities, and there is something for just about everyone who wants to spend a couple hours or a day outside in the sun.
