Orlando Wetlands Park

Are you just starting off with mountain biking and looking for a place with easy trails and lots of wildlife to see? Do you need a place to bring your family and get your kids interested in mountain biking? If so, you need to make a trip over to Orlando Wetlands Park. With plenty of alligators and a variety of birds you will have no shortage of wildlife to watch as you make your way along the trails.

What Makes It Great

Located in Christmas, Florida, Orlando Wetlands Park is 1,650 acres of hardwood hammocks, marshes, and lakes. The biking trails in this park are sandy, berm trails which follow the lakes and marsh areas. The 18 miles of doubletrack are laid out in an intersecting fashion which allows you to explore the area however you choose. While the Florida Trail does run along the border of the park, it is off-limits to bikes.

Two of the trails here take you through the middle of the lakes and marshes. Alligator Alley and Night Heron Lane allow you to get up close and personal with the alligators and other wildlife that call this park home. Keep your eyes open and look around when you are making your way through the park. You may even come up on an alligator laying across the trail.

One very important thing to keep in mind when visiting the Orlando Wetlands Park is that the trails do not have any shade. Make sure you bring water with you and plan to be in the sun for your entire ride. If you forget your water, there are water fountains to use near the restrooms. If you are visiting in the summer try to get there as soon as possible. The park is open from sunrise to sunset, so you have the ability to get there early. Also, keep in mind that the trails are sandy and can develop puddles after heavy rain.

Who is Going to Love It

The Orlando Wetlands Park is a great location for beginner riders. The berm trails are flat and easy to ride on. Also, with the marsh area and ample wildlife, the ride is interesting enough to make everyone in your group happy. This is a great location for families, especially. If you are trying to get your kids into mountain biking this is a perfect location for them.

Directions, Parking, & Regulations

A great thing about the Orlando Wetlands Park is that the entrance and parking is free. To get into the park, take State Road 50 towards Christmas, Florida. Then turn left onto Fort Christmas road going north. After 2.3 miles, turn right onto Wheeler Road. The parking area can be found 1.5 miles down Wheeler Road.

Next to the parking area you will find restrooms, water fountains and a picnic area. Once you are parked, you are able to start on the berm trails in the south section of the park.
