Sherling Lake campground is nestled away in rural Butler County, AL just four miles from the Interstate 65 Greenville exit 130. The campground’s quiet location makes it an inviting destination, and its mile-long walking trail offers picturesque opportunities for shutterbugs.
Sherling Lake has 41 total camping spots suitable for both primitive sites and RV hook-ups. Most sites come with picnic tables and fire pits. Three improved sites have decks. The camping spots are not directly on the lake, but a five-minute walk down a rolling hill will bring campers to the water’s edge. One bathhouse serves the park.
What Makes It Great
Sherling Lake’s location and seclusion are what will appeal to many campers, especially those wanting to spend a few days in a peaceful environment. The campground offers several pavilions for rental including one next to a large playground with well-maintained equipment for anyone seeking the perfect place for a birthday party or family reunion. The campground also has two options for fishing: the Upper Lake and Lower Lake. The Lower Lake is part of the Robert Trent Jones Cambrian Ridge Golf Course. Brim and crappie are the usual fair for fishers with bank and boat fishing options.
A dog park or other designated area is not available, but as long as pets are kept on a leash and picked up after, they can be taken anywhere in the campground.
The campground has a one-mile nature walk with several wooden bridges that cross parts of the Upper Lake. These bridges are often used by area photographers for senior portraits, wedding shoots, and family sessions. The trail is well-marked with gravel from the park area to the back of the campground. A few slight inclines exist on the trail, but the route is quite easy for anyone not experienced with trail walking.
Who is Going to Love It
This campground will be a favorite for individuals seeking quiet. Campers desirous of a slower pace and somewhere to relax will find Sherling Lake inviting. Its location on AL Hwy 263, a truck route, will bring in some noise because several of the camping spots are close to the road, so ask for a spot away from the highway. Site 1 is a great location because of its proximity to the bathhouse, its pull-through space, and the availability of a deck.
