With more than 50 miles of trails, most of which are maintained throughout the winter, it’s no wonder that runners love living in the Twin Cities.
A local favorite and one of the easiest trails to get to is the Downtown Riverfront. Found directly in downtown Minneapolis, bordering the Mississippi River, this trail is the perfect place to work up a sweat after a long day in the office. Not to mention that the historic Stone Arch Bridge offers a great place to take a mid-workout breather. Another frequently visited locale is the Chain of Lakes Loop, with 13.3 miles of interconnected loops and scenic lake views.
South from the Downtown Riverfront, along both sides of the Mississippi River, are the paved Mississippi River Road trails, which continue all the way down to Minnehaha Falls. This trail is incorporated in the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway, which is a 55-mile urban loop that encompasses Minneapolis. The Mississippi River Road trail is perfect for runners who want something more than a flat, urban landscape.
