Boulder Reservoir is an oasis in the midst of mountains and prairie. Boulder heats up in the summer and retreating to the 'res is a great way to beat the heat. Stand up paddling has become increasingly popular in the last few years and Boulder's active community has been quick to embrace the sport. Kayaking and canoeing on the reservoir are just as fun. For some of the more spectacular paddling opportunities, Lake Dillon and Grandby Lake are about an hour out of Boulder and offer larger lake-based adventures right in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. While flat water paddling and stand up paddleboarding aren't the premier sports in town, they are fine complements to the range of outdoors fun available in Boulder. For bigger paddling adventures, the mountain lakes are only about an hour away and are worth the visit.
